Embracing Our Strengths and Building for the Future

Dear Brother Knights,

I’ve always admired people who love school. They thrive in the educational environment and often wonder why others don’t share their enthusiasm. On the other hand, some people learn differently—they may not excel in traditional academics but still put in the effort to advance their knowledge in their own way.
The same can be said about faith. Some people are drawn to immerse themselves in the life of the Church, giving their time and energy to religious practices, while others are more private and reflective in their worship. Both approaches are valid and meaningful, and though they may differ, they share the same foundation of faith.
This balance is reflected in our council as well. Whether you’re highly involved in operations or supporting us in smaller, quieter ways, we should all take pride in being part of the Knights of Columbus, the incredible organization founded by Blessed Michael McGivney.

    Council Updates
In January, the trustees held a meeting to discuss major capital expenses and finances. Here’s what’s ahead:
  • Upper Parking Lot: Blacktop repairs were considered but deemed cost-prohibitive for now.
  • Lower Parking Lot: Funds were approved for concrete replacement.

    Hall Improvements:
      • A budget was approved to remodel the upstairs hall bathrooms and add decorative upgrades.
      • The Clubroom carpet will be replaced with wood or tile flooring, with costs shared by the Clubroom account.

One recent upgrade to the hall is already proving effective. The new camera system, capable of reading license plates, helped identify vehicles trespassing on the property. Those responsible will be notified.

Events and Recognition
    • Basketball Free Throw Contest: A big thank-you to Joe and Jenny Missey for organizing this successful event.
    • Essay Contest: Thank you to all the students who participated in the Knights of Columbus essay contest. Winners will be announced soon, and 1st-place winners will advance to the state-level competition. Awards will be presented at the next 5th Sunday Breakfast on March 30th.

Before our next meeting on February 13th, we’ll host a special Investment Seminar presented by our insurance agent, Joe Pehar. Join us an hour early to enjoy a free meal and learn about Knights of Columbus Asset Advisors and faith-based investing. Look for additional details in this newsletter and email updates.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our council. Whether through active participation or quiet encouragement, every effort contributes to our mission. I hope to see you at the seminar and the next meeting.

Fraternally,
John Ziegler, Grand Knight

The Feast of St. Blaise: Blessing of the Throats in February

ebruary brings with it a special Catholic tradition: the Feast of St. Blaise, celebrated on February 3rd. St. Blaise, a 4th-century bishop and martyr, is remembered not only for his faith and courage but also for his miraculous intercession in saving a young boy from choking on a fishbone. This event is why he became the patron saint of those suffering from illnesses of the throat.

On his feast day, many parishes hold the Blessing of Throats, a unique and meaningful sacramental. During the blessing, two crossed candles are placed near the throat while the priest or deacon prays:

"Through the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and from every other illness. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."

This tradition is not just a reminder of St. Blaise’s miraculous deeds but also a moment to entrust our health and well-being to God’s care.
Thank You!
