Blooming in Service: A Message from the Grand Knight | | Dear Brother Knights, | | | | It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis. His dedication to living a humble life in service to God was truly inspiring. Pope Francis consistently reminded us to be open, welcoming, and to advocate for the poor and underprivileged. He taught us not to get lost in the rules and details of life and religion but to focus on the core of our faith: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind—and love your neighbor as yourself.” His example of compassion and simplicity will be deeply missed by Catholics around the world.
We also take this time to recognize a remarkable milestone within our own community. Our Chaplain, Fr. Anderson, will be celebrating his 50th Anniversary as a priest this May. He will offer 11:00 AM Mass at St. Rose on May 25th, followed by a luncheon reception hosted by the Knights and Ladies at the hall. I encourage everyone to attend and show appreciation for his five decades of faithful service to our church and council.
At our April Council meeting, we proudly welcomed two new members: Conner Krodinger and Tyler Allen. If we can bring in two more members for initiation at the May meeting, we will achieve our quota for the prestigious Star Council Award—a testament to the strength and commitment of our council. Congratulations to all who have sponsored candidates this fraternal year!
I’m also pleased to announce that the upstairs hall bathroom remodel is now complete. A big thank you to everyone who contributed their time and talents—we accomplished this without any labor costs. Next on our list is upgrading the concession stand, which will see plenty of use this spring, summer, and fall with softball, horseshoes, and disc golf activities. We’ll be focusing on repairs and improvements for better functionality and efficiency.
Looking ahead, the nomination of officers for the next fraternal year will take place at the May meeting. If you're interested in serving, you can nominate yourself or someone else, or contact the nominating committee—Todd Milner and Tony Vallo—in advance. Elections will be held at the June meeting.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who supported our Lenten Fish Fry events and the Whole Hog Dinner in April. Your participation and hard work made them a success. Our next big event is the 4th of July Celebration, which will be held on June 29th. I look forward to seeing everyone there as we continue to serve and celebrate together.
Fraternally, John Ziegler, Grand Knight

Council Stats & Updates | | New Members Welcomed: At the April meeting, we proudly welcomed Conner Krodinger and Tyler Allen to our council. If you see them, be sure to extend a warm welcome and thank them for joining the Order!
In Memoriam: We sadly report the passing of Brother Robert Johnston Jr. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
STAR Council Goal: We are just 3 members away from reaching our STAR Council goal! If you know a practicing Catholic gentleman, age 18 or older, invite him to join the world’s greatest fraternal organization.
It truly takes the entire council to pull off events like this—great job, everyone!

Thank You for Supporting the 40 Cans for Lent Food Drive!
| | We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who generously contributed to this year’s 40 Cans for Lent Food Drive. Your kindness and commitment to serving those in need truly embody the spirit of Lent and the core values of the Knights of Columbus.
Because of your support, we were able to make a meaningful impact in our community, helping to stock the shelves for families facing difficult times. Together, we’ve shown that even small acts of charity, when multiplied by many, can make a big difference.
Thank you for being a light of hope this Lenten season!

Spring into Service: Updates, Elections, and Community Fun with the Columbia Anns
| | Dear Anns, | | | | Spring is here, bringing with it the joy of Easter— a time to gather with family, share good food, and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. At this time, the purchase of the remaining round tables for the Knights is on hold until we can generate more income this year, as catering has been down. However, we now have an updated catering menu available on the website to help boost future opportunities. We also voted to contribute $500 toward this year’s fireworks display, with hopes of donating more if the concession stand performs well. This event is always a wonderful time for family, friends, and fellowship—whether you're attending or lending a hand. The concession stand is already stocked and open for Disc Golf. A big thank you to Corey and Dave for keeping it running on weekends! The official openings are:
- April 25: Softball League
- May 9: Horseshoes

CALLING ALL KNIGHTS — WE NEED MORE THAN JUST YOUR GOOD LOOKS!
| | The 2025 Car Show & Swap Meet is rolling up fast, and believe it or not... this thing doesn’t run on horsepower alone.
Let’s be real—this is the biggest event we put on all year, and in the past few years, we've had more cars show up than volunteers. (And last we checked, none of those classic cars know how to direct traffic or hand out goody bags.)
So unless you want to see a couple of poor souls running the whole show with a clipboard in one hand and a traffic cone in the other— Sign up. Be part of the crew.
We promise it’s more fun than watching from the sidelines... and you'll get bragging rights without having to polish a single chrome bumper.
Don’t make us chase you down like a runaway tire.
Grease, Grit, Glory... and hopefully YOU.

| | Celebrating Our Graduates: Honoring Tradition, Embracing the Future | Every spring, families gather in gymnasiums, churches, and auditoriums to witness a rite of passage that has been celebrated for centuries—Graduation. As caps soar into the air and tassels are turned, we recognize not just academic achievement, but the closing of one chapter and the hopeful beginning of another.
A Brief History: Graduation ceremonies date back to the 12th century, when universities first began forming in Europe. The cap and gown tradition we see today has its roots in medieval scholars' robes, symbolizing both learning and unity. The turning of the tassel and the awarding of diplomas became more standardized over time, turning graduation into a symbol of accomplishment and transition across the world.
Today, graduation remains a powerful symbol—not only of knowledge gained but of potential unleashed.
To our parish and community graduates of 2025—whether you’re stepping up from 8th grade, finishing high school, or earning a college degree—we are proud of you. You’ve navigated challenges, embraced opportunities, and grown in ways that go beyond textbooks and tests.
But as you celebrate, remember that true success is not measured by honors or titles. It is found in how you live out your faith, how you serve others, and how you use your gifts to make a difference in the world. The values instilled in you by your family, church, and community will be your guide when life presents its toughest exams.
As Knights and Columbian Anns, we encourage you to stay rooted in those values—carry forward a spirit of service, integrity, and compassion in whatever path you choose. The world needs leaders who are not only smart but also kind, faithful, and strong in character.
So, as you walk across that stage, know that your parish family is cheering you on—not just for what you’ve done, but for all the good you will do.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." — Jeremiah 29:11
Congratulations, Class of 2025—your journey is just beginning!

| | Honoring Our Heroes: The True Meaning of Memorial Day
| As May approaches its end, we are reminded that Memorial Day is far more than just a three-day weekend or the unofficial start of summer. It is a solemn day of remembrance—set aside to honor the men and women of the Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our nation.
A Brief History: Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, began after the Civil War—America's deadliest conflict—as a way to honor soldiers who had died in battle. Communities would gather to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers, flags, and wreaths. The tradition grew, and after World War I, it expanded to honor all Americans who died in military service. In 1971, Memorial Day was officially declared a national holiday, observed on the last Monday in May.
But over time, the true purpose of Memorial Day has faded for many, overshadowed by sales, barbecues, and vacation plans. As Knights, parishioners, and citizens, it is our duty to ensure that the sacrifices of our fallen heroes are never forgotten.
This Memorial Day, let us reflect on the courage of those who stood in harm’s way so we could live in freedom. Whether it’s attending a local ceremony, placing a flag at a veteran’s grave, or simply pausing for a prayer at 3 PM during the National Moment of Remembrance, every small act keeps their memory alive.
Let us also remember the families—the Gold Star families—who carry the weight of that sacrifice every day. We honor them too, for their strength and resilience.
As members of a faith-based community rooted in Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism, we are called not only to remember but to live lives worthy of their sacrifice. May their legacy inspire us to serve with humility, lead with courage, and cherish the freedoms we too often take for granted.
"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." — John 15:13

A Tribute to Mothers: The Heart of Faith, Family, and Love | | This May, we pause to honor the women who shape our lives with unwavering love, strength, and guidance — our mothers. Whether they are with us in person or live on in our hearts, mothers are a reflection of God’s grace, nurturing us with patience, wisdom, and endless compassion.
Mothers are often the first to teach us about faith, kindness, and the importance of service to others. They are the quiet supporters, the tireless workers, and the constant source of comfort through life’s challenges and celebrations.
As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us give thanks not only for our own mothers but for all the women in our parish, community, and council families who embody the spirit of motherhood — grandmothers, godmothers, aunts, and all those who have stepped into that nurturing role.
We offer a special prayer of gratitude: "Lord, bless all mothers with strength, patience, and joy. Comfort those who miss their mothers, and shine your light on the women who guide us in faith and love each day. May we always cherish and honor them, not just today, but every day."
To all mothers—thank you for being the heart of our homes and the backbone of our communities. Happy Mother’s Day!
