Rooted in Faith, Ready to Serve: A Reflection for August

As summer draws to a close and the pace of life begins to pick back up, August invites us into a season of transition. For families, it’s time to sharpen pencils, pack backpacks, and prepare hearts and minds for a new school year. For the Church, it’s a time to refocus on ministry, service, and community life after the restful days of summer.

In the midst of this busyness, the Knights of Columbus remain rooted in faith—a steady presence in our parish and community. No matter the season, our mission continues: to serve, to support, and to lead with love.
August also brings the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15th. This feast reminds us of Mary’s unwavering trust in God’s plan and her complete devotion to His will. As we begin a new fraternal year, may her example inspire us to say “yes” to the small and great tasks placed before us—whether it’s helping at a parish event, volunteering at Bingo, or simply offering a kind word to someone in need.

Let this month be a time to recommit to our mission, support our students and educators, and look ahead with purpose and prayer.

“Let all that you do be done in love.”
— 1 Corinthians 16:14

Building Momentum: A Message from the Grand Knight

Fellow Knights and Ladies,

The officers ceremony went well and the new team is ready to lead the council forward!

The party for Bob Roth was an awe-inspiring event. Bob was surprised, and I believe he had a great time. Everyone should aspire to be like Bob.

I am going to begin having the chairperson of each event keep a file of all pertinent information—lead times, contacts, pricing, etc. This will help in the future should someone new need to head up an event. I will speak with individuals about what should be included. These files will be kept at the council for easy reference.

The upcoming car show planning is well underway. I look forward to another great show!

There will be both an Octoberfest and Disctoberfest held in September.

There was some confusion—and some very upset individuals—regarding the notice in the St. Rose bulletin about the cancellation of Funeral Dinner Service. Let me clarify: the council will continue to provide this service. I have notified the secretary at St. Rose, and a corrected announcement will appear in next week’s bulletin.
I have asked Terry Sprous to lead this effort, and she has graciously accepted. Thank you, Terry!

I’ve also requested that the St. Rose secretary seek my approval before running any notices that are council-related moving forward.

A new fraternal year means we get to start fresh in working toward another Star Council Award. The most challenging part is recruiting 15 new members each year—so please ask around and invite others to join.

Thank you to everyone who has offered support and encouragement in my role as Grand Knight. Communication and teamwork will be key in continuing to keep our council one of the best around.

Please keep our ill members and their families in your daily prayers.

God bless you and your families,
David Kennedy

Keeping It Clean and Connected: Columbia Anns August Update

Dear Anns,

There was no meeting held in July due to the Installation of Officers. Thank you to all the family and friends who attended and brought a side dish to share.

Congratulations to our new and returning officers for the 2025–2026 fiscal year!

A quick reminder regarding kitchen use by members:

    • Wash and put away dishes
    •  Please leave the space as good—or better—than you found it:
    • The kitchen may not be used during Columbia Anns events.
    • You must be a member to use the kitchen.
      • Wipe down counters
      • Take out the trash
      • Sweep the floor if needed

We’re proud to say we consistently receive high health scores, especially as a volunteer-run kitchen. The Health Department has been keeping a closer eye on local facilities due to low scores at some area restaurants, so your help in maintaining our standards is truly appreciated.

The word of the month for the Columbia Anns is: Communication
Definition: “The successful conveying or sharing of ideas and feelings.”

Let’s continue to share openly, listen kindly, and support each other as we move into a new fraternal year.

Have a wonderful rest of July—and we’ll see you at the August meeting!

Yours truly,
Vicky Moss
President

Fireworks, Fundraising, and a Fantastic 4th: Treasurer’s Report

I would like to thank everyone who helped organize, worked the day of, or simply attended our 4th of July celebration this year. Thanks to your support, we had our largest pool of donations to date.

While prices did increase slightly, the impact of tariffs was not as severe as expected. This year, we collected $3,975 in donations and spent $3,700 on fireworks and supplies—leaving just enough to purchase a new electronic firing system for future events.

A special thank you to everyone who donated throughout the year, and to Cassi for organizing various fundraisers that helped make this possible.

Our goal for next year is to raise $5,000, and with this kind of momentum, we’re off to a great start.

Finally, a shoutout to Gabe Stearns, Square Alexander, and Brandon Viehman for setting everything off safely—and managing to keep all their fingers intact in the process!

Thank you all again for your continued support.

Jeff Viehman
Treasurer

Help Make It Happen – Car Show Volunteers Needed!

Our 2025 KC Car Show is fast approaching, and we need all hands on deck to make it another incredible success!

Whether you can spare an hour or the whole day, there’s a spot for everyone—parking, registration, raffle sales, setup/cleanup, food service, and more. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, and we can’t do it without your help.

A volunteer sign-up sheet will beposted in the Clubroom—please take a moment to stop by and add your name. Grab a friend or bring the family and be part of a day full of cars, community, and camaraderie.

Let’s show everyone what Council 1185 is made of!

Lifted Up in Grace: Honoring the Assumption of Mary
Each year on August 15th, Catholics around the world celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary—the belief that Mary, the Mother of Jesus, was taken body and soul into heaven at the end of her earthly life.

While the event itself is a mystery beyond our full understanding, it is a celebration of hope, holiness, and reward. Mary’s life was one of complete surrender to God’s will, and her Assumption reminds us of the reward promised to those who live in faith and obedience.

For us as Knights and Anns, Mary is not only a spiritual role model but a symbol of the kind of service we strive for: humble, quiet, powerful, and rooted in love. As we reflect on her Assumption, may we also lift our hearts and intentions toward heaven—recommitting ourselves to serving others and growing in faith.

Whether you're volunteering at an event, supporting your family, or offering prayers for those in need—know that every act of charity brings us closer to the example Mary set.

Back in Action: Reconnecting with Purpose This Fall
August often feels like the turning point of the year. As vacations wind down, kids head back to school, and schedules start filling up again, we find ourselves re-engaging with routines—and hopefully, with purpose.

In the life of our council, this is a season of new energy and opportunities. From car show planning to fall fundraisers, Bingo nights to parish service, now is the perfect time to step forward and get involved.

You don’t need to do everything—just one commitment, one volunteer shift, or one kind gesture can make a lasting impact. If every member gave just an hour a month, imagine how much more we could accomplish together.

Let’s head into the second half of the year with hearts open and hands ready—rooted in faith, and ready to serve.

Backpacks, Blessings, and New Beginnings: A Back-to-School Reflection
As August rolls in, so does a new school year—filled with sharpened pencils, fresh notebooks, and a mix of excitement and nerves for students, parents, and teachers alike. Whether it's the first day of kindergarten or the final year of high school, Back to School season is more than just a change in routine—it’s a chance for growth, renewal, and recommitment.

As Knights and Columbian Anns, we are part of a larger faith family that supports not only our parish, but also the many children and educators within it. This is a great time to pray for our students, lift up our teachers, and look for ways to serve—whether that means volunteering at parish events, helping with school drives, or simply being a positive, faithful presence in a young person’s life.

Let’s send our children into the new year with more than school supplies—let’s equip them with encouragement, support, and a foundation in faith. And let’s not forget the parents and grandparents who juggle lunches, carpools, and calendar chaos—your quiet commitment is a reflection of Christ’s love in action.

May this school year be filled with knowledge, kindness, protection, and grace for all.

Thank YOU!
A big thank you to all of our members, families, and volunteers who continue to support our council and community through service, prayer, and fellowship. Whether you lend a hand behind the scenes, show up for events, or offer your prayers—you are appreciated more than you know.
