    Embracing the Dog Days:
    Summer Reflections and Upcoming Gatherings

Dear Brother Knights,

A friend of mine mentioned the dog days of summer, a time in late summer when the heat starts to wear you down. These days are marked by the rising of the brightest star in the sky, part of the Canis constellation. He joked that’s why we weren’t catching any fish, but I think it was just too hot. I remember late summer days being out of school, bored with the daily routine, longing for a change, and to see my friends again. Sometimes a break makes you appreciate the comfort of your ‘normal life.’

Summer at the KC grounds offers a few big events to break up the routine and catch up with friends. The 4th of July celebration was a big success with food, kids' games, music, and a spectacular fireworks show by Jeff Viehman and his crew. The big end-of-summer event is the St. Rose Parish Labor Day Picnic. Plan now to attend and invite your friends and family. It’s a good time to meet up with people you haven’t seen in a while. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. A big crowd enjoying the day makes all the planning, prep, and work worthwhile.

Unfortunately, the outdoor Mass for Columbus Day at the K-C grounds has become a victim of our own success. The big hall is rented every weekend this late summer and early fall. Without the big hall to fall back on, we couldn’t schedule an outdoor Mass due to weather concerns. We may try for a spring date and be sure to reserve the hall for a weekend around Columbus Day next year.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer. I look forward to seeing you at an event, the monthly meeting, or stopping by the clubroom.

Fraternally,
John Zeigler, Grand Knight
Summer Send-off: Welcoming New Beginnings and Celebrating Traditions

Dear Anns,

Summer is flying by, and that means it's almost time for our St. Rose Labor Day Picnic! We hope you'll volunteer your time or attend the picnic. It's always a great time. If you can help, please see Jen Missey for kitchen duties or Bob Roth for outside activities.

There will be no meeting in July due to the installation of new officers for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Congratulations to our new officers, and thank you and your families for attending the dinner and ceremony.

New Officers:
    President: Vicky Moss
    Vice President: Traci Hardin
    Treasurer: Jen Missey
    Secretary: Terri Sprous
    Trustee: Debbie Roth

We had a fantastic turnout and sold a lot of food at the 4th of July event. Looking ahead, we have a busy catering schedule in August, September, and October. If you can help serve and then go home, it would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Have a great Summer,
Vicky Moss, Columbia Anns President
Clubroom Update:
Enhancements and Excitement Ahead

Hello Everyone,

We are pleased to report that the clubroom is doing good! This summer, we've been busy with several updates, including installing new StarLink internet, working on upgrading our security cameras, cleaning the carpets, and making other improvements to the clubroom.

We hope you all had a blast at our Independence Day celebration! It was a fantastic, fun-filled day, and seeing everyone come together was wonderful.

Looking ahead, our hall is buzzing with activity. We have a packed schedule of events and rentals in the coming months. Don’t miss out—be sure to check the event section for all the details.

As we savor the last days of summer, we hope you’ve made wonderful memories with your children and grandchildren. As the school season approaches, remember not to let the hustle and bustle overwhelm you. Take a moment to breathe and relax. After all, "The best time to relax is when you don’t have time for it."

Stay cool and enjoy summer,
The Clubroom Committee

HALL RENTALS

We are pleased to announce that April Hendricks will be taking over the hall rental contracts. I will finish out the current rentals through October, and April will start in August with any new rental inquiries.

Please join me in welcoming her to this position and thanking her for stepping up. The rentals at the Knights of Columbus are a great revenue source for us, and this volunteer position requires meeting with people, taking payments, constantly answering phones and messages, giving tours of the hall, directing people to whom they need to speak about liquor and catering, and ensuring we have volunteers for bartenders or to set up curtains and overhead. The list is never-ending, and the "job" is sometimes thankless. So please make sure she knows how grateful we are for her stepping up to do this for us all. Thank you April!!!

Spiritual Story
The Rainy Day Reunion
In the heart of summer, a small community church planned an outdoor service to celebrate unity and faith. However, as the congregation gathered, dark clouds rolled in, threatening to wash out the event. Despite the looming rain, the community decided to proceed, embracing the weather as a reminder of life's unpredictable nature. As the rain began to fall, instead of scattering, everyone huddled closer under available shelters, sharing stories and songs. The pastor remarked, "Just as the rain nourishes the earth, our shared moments today nourish our spirits and bond." This impromptu gathering turned into one of the most memorable, illustrating how adversity can foster a deeper connection within a community.

Humor Me
Summer Cookout Confusion
At a summer parish cookout, the priest decided to mingle and quiz the children with light biblical questions. Approaching a young boy chomping on a hot dog, he asked, "Can you tell me who built the ark?" The boy looked up, slightly confused, and responded, "I'm not sure, but I don’t think it was anyone from around here. And I definitely didn't do it!" Chuckling, the priest realized that sometimes, the innocence of children's answers provides the best laughter and the reminder that teaching moments can come with a side of humor.
