Reflecting on the Past Year & Looking Ahead

Dear Brother Knights,

The start of a new year is a perfect time to reflect on the past and look ahead. It’s an opportunity to celebrate our achievements, learn from what we missed, and reconnect with friends and family. Perhaps it’s time to visit someone we haven’t seen in a while or make resolutions to improve ourselves. A great resolution to consider is strengthening your relationship with God.

In January, the Supreme Council is offering a Novena for Life program. For nine days leading up to the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, members will receive daily emails with prayers and reflections. I encourage everyone to participate. Additionally, take a moment to explore the new religious information kiosk in the club room. It offers a range of materials on Saints and various aspects of the Catholic faith to enrich your spiritual life.

December Highlights:

At our December meeting, we reviewed our major projects for the month. The Nativity Scene set-up was a great success. A special thank you to Nativity Scene Director Jason Duepner and all who helped. It truly emphasizes keeping Christ in Christmas.

Another impactful event was the Christmas party for underprivileged kids, where over 350 children received presents, haircuts, coats, blankets, a meal, and a visit with Santa. Congratulations to Director Vicky Moss and everyone who contributed to this heartwarming effort. It’s events like these that make a real difference in our community.

Looking ahead to the January meeting, we’ll be discussing major capital projects and financing. Your input will be valuable, so I hope to see everyone there.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!

Fraternally,
John Ziegler

Celebrating a Year of Dedication and Looking Ahead

Dear Ladies,

There was no meeting in December as we celebrated all our hard work and accomplishments for 2024 with a Christmas party on December 7th. I can never say thank you enough for the dedication and effort our volunteers put in throughout the year. I hope the party was a small way of showing how much you are appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who helps with bingo, catering, working the kitchen for shooting matches, fish fries, car shows, and blacklight bingo. Your contributions are what keep us going strong.

Wishing safe travels to those on the road this holiday season. Looking forward to seeing all of you in the New Year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The History of Christmas: Celebrating the Birth of Christ

Christmas, celebrated on December 25th, is one of the most cherished holidays in the Catholic faith, honoring the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. This sacred day marks the fulfillment of God’s promise to send His Son to bring salvation to humanity.

The word “Christmas” originates from the Old English term Cristes Maesse, meaning “Christ’s Mass.” The Church chose December 25th to celebrate Christ’s Nativity, aligning with the ancient Roman festival of Sol Invictus (the Unconquered Sun) to emphasize Christ as the true Light of the World (John 8:12).

The celebration of Christmas is deeply rooted in Catholic traditions. From the joyful singing of carols, such as “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” to the display of Nativity scenes, first popularized by St. Francis of Assisi in the 13th century, every element of this holiday reflects the beauty and wonder of Christ’s birth. The Advent season, which precedes Christmas, prepares our hearts through prayer, penance, and reflection, making the joy of Christmas even greater.

The Symbolism of Christmas Traditions:

The Christmas Tree: Represents eternal life through Christ, as its evergreen branches remain vibrant even in winter.

The Star: Reminds us of the Star of Bethlehem that guided the Wise Men to Jesus.

Gift-Giving: Symbolizes the gifts of the Magi to the Christ Child and God’s ultimate gift of His Son to the world.

As Catholics, Christmas is more than just a day of celebration—it is a season of rejoicing in God’s love and mercy, extending from Christmas Day through the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. This holy time calls us to reflect on the miracle of Christ’s birth and His presence in our lives.

Let us keep the true meaning of Christmas at the center of our hearts and homes this holiday season. May the light of Christ fill your days with peace, hope, and joy!
