Devotion & Service: Reflecting on Our Traditions and Community Impact
| | Dear Brother Knights,
In the Catholic Church, May and October are dedicated to Mary, and at St. Rose, we honor this tradition by praying the Rosary before each Mass during these months. I encourage all Knights and Ladies to come to Mass 30 minutes early—when Mass used to start anyway—and pray the Rosary together. Reflecting on my dad’s wake, I remember when the funeral director announced we’d pray the Rosary, and a few restless friends hurried out to avoid it, seeing it as a chore. But the Rosary is actually 20 minutes of calming, reflective prayer that has remained the same for centuries. It’s something we could all benefit from in these uncertain times. It would also be great to keep a record of attendees so our council can be recognized by our Order for Faith/Church programs this year.
Another important aspect of our Order is community involvement, highlighted by our Tootsie Roll Drive for people with developmental disabilities. Our collection day is October 19th, with all proceeds going to Special Olympics and Pony Bird. A sign-up sheet is available in the clubroom, and we’d greatly appreciate any help you can offer, even just a couple of hours. It’s also an interesting chance to observe human generosity.
We also have two big events coming up in October that are crucial for our operations. The Car Show is on Saturday, October 5th, and the Whole Hog Sausage Dinner is on Sunday, October 13th. Please support these events, and if you know anyone interested in joining the Knights, invite them to come and learn more during our membership drive held at both events. Your support and participation mean a lot!
Fraternally, John Zeigler, Grand Knight |

Columbia Anns Corner: Acts of Kindness
| | Dear Anns, I’ve recently witnessed several acts of kindness, reminding me of the many kind people in our community and within our organization. For October, I challenge each Columbia Ann to perform one act of kindness—it can be as simple as holding the door open for someone. The Columbia Anns have been busy this year with the concession stand and catering. In return, we voted to purchase much-needed items for the hall, reducing the need to borrow or move items. We approved the purchase of 20 lightweight Lifetime round tables and 20 additional Lifetime chairs, which will benefit hall rentals and reduce the need to move tables around. We also purchased a rolling cart with long pans to assist with the Whole Hog Sausage Dinners, catering, St. Rose Picnic, and Auction. These items are intended to help us work smarter, not harder. We also voted to donate $2,000 to the Clubroom for new security cameras around the hall's exterior, ensuring the safety of our bartenders, members, and guests leaving late at night. For the October meeting, I ask each Columbia Ann attending to bring a small fall item wrapped or in a bag, and we’ll play a game with them. The November meeting will feature a white elephant exchange, and our December meeting will be replaced with a party on Saturday, December 7th. Bring a covered dish (the main meal will be provided) and a $20 gift if you’d like to participate in the gift exchange. We also voted to host an 80th birthday party for Deacon Ed after the first of the year—stay tuned for the date! Thank you all for your hard work these past months. Upcoming Events:October 14th: Whole Hog Sausage Dinner December 7th: Columbia Anns Christmas Party December 14th: Food Pantry & School Christmas Party Have a great fall season! Very Truly Yours, Vicky Moss, Columbia Anns President |

Fall Festivities and Football Fun in the Clubroom | | Dear Members,
September was a fantastic month at the Clubroom! As the cooler weather starts rolling in, we’re seeing more people coming inside to enjoy the bar, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
We’ve also kicked off our Football Sundays! The Clubroom is open from noon until the end of the 3:25 game, and we’re excited to host different events and activities on select weeks. Be sure to check Facebook and the newsletter for updates on what’s happening each week. Remember, everyone is welcome to bring snacks, appetizers, or food to share while you enjoy the games—though it’s certainly not required.
We also want to remind you that our Members Only Halloween Trunk or Treat is coming up on October 25th! We’re looking for as many cars as possible to join in the fun and hand out candy. If you’re interested in participating, simply let the bartender know. There’s a sign-up list behind the bar, or you can call or text 636-209-8636, and we’ll add your name. If you can’t bring a car, we’d love for you to bring your children and grandchildren to enjoy the evening! The Knights of Columbus will be providing snacks, drinks, a s’mores bar, crafts, and games for the kids. It’s going to be a fantastic time for the whole family!
Speaking of fun, our softball season is up and running, and things couldn’t be going better! The teams are having a blast, and we’d love for you to come watch. If you’re free one Friday evening, come out and watch a game—it’s a great way to spend an evening with lots of action and excitement on the field!
As the weather cools down, we know what warms you up—a drink at the Clubroom! Whether you're here to dodge the chilly temps or to toast to another great month, we’ve got a seat (and a drink) waiting for you!
Sincerely, The Clubroom Committee |

Bingo
| | A Tradition of Charity and Community
| | The Knights of Columbus #1185 has proudly sponsored bingo for over 50 years, covering hall rent and advertising costs, with all other proceeds going to not-for-profit charities. Once, there were seven bingo games in the De Soto area, and now we are the last one standing. We are grateful for our loyal base of players who join us week after week.
Note: Any member who has been with us for six months is eligible to work bingo once approved by the Missouri Gaming/Bingo Division. If you’re interested in joining us, please let me know.
Wednesday night bingo is one of our primary fundraisers, supporting our charitable contributions. Through bingo, we proudly donate to organizations such as St. Vincent de Paul, St. Rose of Lima Parish, De Soto Food Pantry, Pony Bird Home, Sunnyhill Assisted Living, American Legion Baseball, St. Pius X HS Scholarship Fund, Developmental Disabilities of Jefferson County, Veterans Affairs, and many others.
Mark your calendars for Blacklight Bingo on November 9th this year! We also support our charities through silent auctions, and we are seeking LIKE NEW item donations. You can drop these items off at bingo or at SMCI, 1661 Veterans Drive.
A key part of our bingo success is the fantastic food prepared by Vicky Moss and the Columbia Anns. The Club Room also pitches in on the second bingo night of the month, serving pizza, pretzels, and other snacks.
A heartfelt thank you to all our dedicated volunteers who make bingo run smoothly: Bob Roth, Debbie Roth, Greg Cobb, Jenny Missey, Joe Missey, Frank Wilson, Ann Oberle, David Sprous, Terri Sprous, Cory Sprous, Todd Milner, Jennifer Penaloza, Tony Vallo, Donald Krodinger, Karen Krodinger and Larry Krodinger. Your commitment keeps this tradition alive.
Sincerely, Larry Krodinger Bingo Chairman God Bless All
