For as long as I can remember, I’ve lived in Minnesota with a DEEP resentment for winter. The snow, the biting cold, the endless gray—I dreaded it all. Each year, I’d brace myself, counting down the days until spring’s thaw. But this year, something shifted. I set an intention to connect with winter, to uncover its magic and see it through a new lens: one of introspection, healing, rebirth, and rest. What I discovered transformed not just my relationship with the season, but with myself. Winter, I learned, is a teacher of stillness. It invites us to slow down, to go inward, to rest in a way our fast-paced world often forbids. I began this journey by taking up winter hiking—a first for me. Bundled in layers, I trekked through snow-laden trails, the crunch of ice beneath my boots a rhythmic meditation. It was on these hikes that I met Calliech, a wise and ancient presence who seemed to embody winter’s quiet strength. We met many times, each encounter peeling back layers of my resistance, revealing the season’s hidden gifts. I also encountered magical elementals, beings, and winter fae—ethereal spirits dancing in the frost, their laughter like the tinkling of icicles. They taught me to see the frozen landscape not as barren, but as a canvas of beauty, alive with subtle magic. Through these experiences, I began to appreciate winter’s lessons. The stillness of a snow-covered forest became a mirror for my own need to pause and reflect. The icy air, once a source of dread, now felt like a cleansing breath, stripping away what no longer served me. Winter, I realized, is a season of rebirth—beneath the frozen ground, seeds of transformation lie dormant, waiting for the right moment to bloom. It’s a time to heal, to turn inward, and to embrace the quiet power of rest. Now, as I watch snowflakes drift outside my window, I no longer feel the old resentment. Instead, I feel love. I’ve come to cherish the slowed pace, the introspection winter demands, and the stark beauty of a frozen world. The glittering ice, the soft silence of a snowstorm, the way the landscape holds its breath—it’s all a reminder of nature’s cycles, and our place within them. Winter has become a sacred season for me, one I now hold close to my heart. I invite you, dear mystic mysteries community, to find your own winter magic. Step outside, even for a moment, and listen to the stillness.
