St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is often considered a beginning marker for the coming Spring. After months of cold, snow, and gray skies, we welcome the celebration of all things green. Irish green can stir the heart for the awakening of trees and grass as life slowly returns to a dormant world.

Old Man Winter and Mother Nature typically battle each other throughout the month of March in the Central US, as the change of seasons bring roller coaster weather. I've seen it shift from sunshine and 75 degrees to 25 degrees and snow in the span of 24 hours.

I have some personal roots in Ireland, so I share in this annual celebration of Irish heritage. For me, it goes deeper than clovers and green beer. What St. Patrick accomplished in his life is remarkable.

In a time and culture where Christianity was hardly known or welcomed, he found creative ways to integrate Christian symbols and beliefs into existing Irish religious practices. This paved the way for incredible growth of the Christian faith in his lifetime, establishing him as a renowned leader who is celebrated and revered to this day.

Happy St. Patrick's day!
