A Message from the Grand Knight: Honoring November Traditions and Looking Ahead
| | Dear Brother Knights,
The month of November is traditionally a time when Catholics remember those who have passed away. This coincides with the end of the Church calendar year. We begin the month with All Saints Day on November 1st, preceded by Halloween (All Hallows Eve). While it’s important to honor all saints on that day, All Souls Day on November 2nd may feel more personal to many of us.
Throughout November, we are encouraged to pray for the souls in Purgatory. Our prayers for our deceased relatives, fellow Knights, and Ladies can help lift them to their eternal reward in Heaven. Some may achieve Heaven immediately—Father Tom Carrol, whom we support in his rural Kentucky mission, comes to mind. The rest of us will rely on the prayers of our Catholic community and the grace of God.
This year, the Knights and Ladies will have a float in the Veterans Day parade. A big thank you to Vicky Moss for spearheading this effort. If you are a veteran, we would love to have you join us on the float. Vicky is also compiling a list of names of those who have served—active, former, and deceased—to place on banners for the float. If you have served or know of other members who have, please contact Vicky or send an email through the website.
We also had a very successful Car Show this year. A huge thanks to Beth and Walt Novotny, and all who helped. A portion of the profits will be used for much-needed capital improvements. The parking lot has already been striped, and more repairs are being considered.
Lastly, remember our regular meetings on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. All input, concerns, and questions are welcome. The more people engaged in the process, the stronger we are as a community.
Fraternally, John Zeigler, Grand Knight |

November News and Holiday Preparations from the Columbia Anns
| | Dear Anns, Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting and participated in the fall gift exchange. We will be doing the White Elephant exchange during the November meeting—bring your "junk" or a gift you received and want to get rid of. It will be lots of fun! Please note, there will be no meeting in December since we will have our Christmas party instead. 2024 Food Pantry & School Christmas:Summer has come and gone, and we are preparing for the Children's party. A big thank you to a member who wishes to remain nameless for stepping up and helping out a lot this year. Last year, we took care of 300 children, reaching our goal that we've had since we began this program 14 years ago. We are excited to have Fredbird and Louie coming out to greet the children, thanks to Bill Polley (AKA Santa). The Knights are generously covering all the food expenses this year so the kids can enjoy a good lunch. We Got Six will be collecting toys at Walmart the weekend before the party to help us out. If you’d like to assist, we still need 100 more blankets to reach our goal. Let’s work together to make Christmas 2024 great for the children. We’re still working on purchasing the new round tables and additional chairs, but we encountered some delivery costs. We hope to have them purchased before the year ends. The new rack and 22 pans were already put to use at the Whole Hog Sausage Dinner, and they will save us a lot of time from borrowing and moving things around the hall. The Columbia Anns are also donating a gift basket for Blacklight Bingo. Additionally, we will be celebrating Deacon Ed's 80th birthday at the hall on 2/2/25 from 1 to 3 p.m. It will be a simple celebration with cake, punch, chips, and dip. Jenn will ensure the information is placed in the bulletin 2 to 3 weeks before the event. The Columbia Anns and helpers Christmas party will be on December 7th, 2024. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. at the big hall. Please bring a $20 gift if you wish to participate in the gift exchange. This year’s theme is "Twas the Night Before Christmas." It has come to our attention that we could use 3-4 more stock pans in the kitchen for the big events we host. We also discussed purchasing a First Aid Cabinet that we saw at the food show, but this has been tabled until the next meeting. Upcoming Events:November 9th: Veterans Day Parade—Any Knights who are veterans and wish to ride in the parade, please show up at 8 a.m. at KC Hall. Call Vicky at 314-307-3896 with any questions. November 9th: Blacklight Bingo December 7th: Columbia Anns Christmas Party December 14th: Christmas Party for the Food Pantry and Schools December 21st: Knights Christmas Party Very Truly Yours, Vicky Moss, Columbia Anns President |
