Knights of Columbus #1185

De Soto, Missouri | St. Rose of Lima Parish

From the Desk of the Grand Knight:

Brother Knights and Ladies,

January is a long cold month, but the days are getting longer as we head into February. I'm reminded of the lyrics of a Merle Haggard song:

If we make it through December
Everything's gonna be all right , I know
It's the coldest time of winter
And I shiver when I see the falling snow
If we make it through December
Got plans to be in a warmer town come summertime
Maybe even California
If we make it through December, we'll be fine

I always thought it sounded more appropriate for January. If things feel troubled or out of control in our lives, we should do what we can to make it better. looking forward to better times, not necessarily in California, but St. Rose in De Soto.

February brings us the start of the Lenten season. Our journey begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14th. The Knights and Ladies will host a fish fry on Fridays during Lent. This is a great community building event for the Parish. Please support them if you can, watch for time schedule in your e-mails.

The Missouri Knights of Columbus State Council has a program of providing wheelchairs to members and family in need. They are accepting donation to purchase more chairs to give away. A reminder that our council has wheelchairs available at our hall for any member or family member in need of one at no charge.

I hope everyone has a thoughtful and reflective Lenten Season on our journey towards Easter.

Fraternally Yours,
John Ziegler, Grand Knight
Columbia Anns’ Commitment to Community in the Month of Love

Ladies,
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the meeting with all the cold weather we have had. We did not update the bi-laws as I was not feeling well that evening. We will update them in February.

The new freezer and new shelves are installed and ready to use. We purchased a new warmer also, which is needed for the St. Rose Auction, Fish Fry and St. Rose Parish Picnic. St. Rose has donated $900.00 towards the cost of $2650.00 for the new warmer.

Thank you to the volunteers who step up for catering, picnics, fund raisers so we can purchase new equipment when required for our kitchen. We are waiting on the cost from our Grand Knight for the cost to repair the 2 older stove tops and the cost of the wall to put the cabinets back in. The wall was needed so no damage will be done to the new freezer.

Fish Fry will begin soon. If anyone is able to volunteer to help contact Chris Allen or Tiffany Viehman.

We discussed donating $200.00 or $300.00 to our annual fireworks show. The Clubroom Committee will provide us more updates and what food items will be needed for that day. The date is June 29th due to the 4th falling on a weekday this year.

The concession stand will be open this Spring/Summer for Horseshoes. If anyone is interested in helping on Friday nights please contact me.

There are plenty of volunteer opportunities coming up. Take a look at the Help Needed Section for details.

I told my wife she should embrace her mistakes. She gave me a hug.

Spiritual Report

In a small village, there were two brothers who lived next door to each other. Despite their closeness in age and proximity, they had a falling out and hadn't spoken in years. One day, a carpenter came to the village seeking work. The elder brother, seeing an opportunity, asked the carpenter to build a high fence between their homes, to further separate them.
The carpenter agreed but instead built a bridge connecting the two houses. When the younger brother saw this, he was moved by the gesture and crossed the bridge to reconcile with his elder brother. The elder brother, surprised and humbled, welcomed him with open arms.
The carpenter, having completed his task, packed up to leave. The brothers, realizing the wisdom behind his action, asked him to stay and build more. The carpenter simply said, “I'm off to build bridges elsewhere.”

Lesson: The story teaches us about forgiveness and the power of reconciliation. Sometimes, it takes just one act of understanding and kindness to bridge the gap and heal old wounds. In this month of love and kinship, let's remember to build bridges, not barriers.

My husband asked what I wanted for Valentine's Day. I said, 'Nothing would make me happier than a diamond.' So he got me nothing.
