    Summer Service: Knights in Action

Dear Brother Knights,

In so many ways, it can bring quite a level of anxiety to our lives with all the uncertainty that is in the world, nation, and church. Wars around the world seem out of our control. National elections are frustrating since a few states decide them. Changes in the church challenge our faith and commitment to the future of our parish and school. There have been a few changes in the Knights of Columbus, but the operation of our council has been very stable. The finance and participation levels have been good. We have a long history of successful operations that we continue to build on.

Also consistent are the officer positions of the council. Because there were only a couple of changes, the new officer installation ceremony in July has been decided to be skipped this year. There will not be a regular Knights meeting in July, either. I hope to see everyone at the August meeting on Thursday, August 8th at 7:00.

As you enjoy your summer free time, keep the Knights in your plans. Bingo is still every Wednesday. The clubroom is open Monday through Saturday, with a Queen of Hearts jackpot drawing on Monday. The horseshoe league is on Fridays. The big events are the 4th of July celebration on June 29 and our Labor Day picnic on September 2nd. As always, stay up-to-date with info in this newsletter, website, and e-mails.

I want to thank everyone who has supported me through my 4th and final year as Grand Knight. I appreciate the people who do their part to make our hall a place for fun and welcoming members and the community alike. In the upcoming fraternal year, I would like to try a few new programs. We will focus on Faith, Family, Community, and Life. Upcoming events include an outdoor mass on the Hall grounds and a membership drive. Your council can do this, and I want St. Rose 1185 to be recognized for our success.

Fraternally,
John Zeigler, Grand Knight
Bright Beginnings: Columbia Anns' Summer Initiatives

Dear Anns,

July is filled with family fun and vacations, and I hope all families will come together for the 4th of July on June 29th at the KC Hall. We discussed buying new chairs for the hall—20 at a time. They will run around $500.00 a pop, and we thought we could do maybe another 100 or so over time. We put this on hold because we had low attendance at the June meeting, and June is a vacation month. We replaced two cheese machines that were broken, one for the kitchen and one for the concession stand. There was a one-time rental fee and a box of free cheese for each, which more than covered the rental fee. We voted to buy a new frost-free freezer to replace the old one in the concession stand. It has been ordered and was delivered last Saturday. Carl Oberle has been working on trying to fix our ice box in the kitchen. We voted to give Jason Cain, who cleans the kitchen monthly, a $50.00 raise each month for cleaning.

The women, over the past six months, have replaced the following items at the hall:
    - Big Freezer and shelves by the kitchen - $22,000
    - Rolling cooler for drinks in the concession stand - $2800.00
    - 2 cheese machines - $300.00
    - Freezer for the concession stand - 742.00 -includes delivery and haul away of old one
    - New fan and trash can for the concession stand

We have much catering coming up if anyone can volunteer. Even if you can only serve or do the prep, couple of hours goes a long way. This will generate good income for the ladies as well as Bingo generates good monthly income.

Celebrating Independence Day – A Reflection on Freedom and Unity

Independence Day, or the Fourth of July, is a time to celebrate the United States' storied past and its journey toward freedom and democracy. This day marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, an event that set the 13 colonies on the path to forming a new nation, free from British rule. Across the country, Americans celebrate with fireworks, parades, barbecues, and family gatherings, reflecting on the freedoms we cherish and the sacrifices made to secure them.

As we enjoy the festivities, it’s also a moment to recognize our shared values of liberty, justice, and equality. The Fourth of July is not only a day of fun and celebration but also a poignant reminder of the country's unity and resilience. It’s a time to honor those who have fought to preserve our freedoms and to acknowledge that our collective efforts contribute to the ongoing story of our nation.

Spiritual Story
The Light of Guidance
In a small village, there was a chapel with a large, beautifully crafted stained glass window that depicted a ship sailing through tumultuous seas with a guiding star shining above. The local priest used this image to teach about guidance and faith. "In our lives, just as in the sea, storms will come, and waters may get rough. Always look for the guiding star, our faith, which will help us navigate through the darkest nights," he explained during the service. This story served as a powerful reminder that with faith, no storm is too great to overcome.

Humor Me
A Lesson in Patience
Father Mike decided to teach his young Sunday school class about patience. He set a timer and placed a delicious chocolate cake on the table. "Whoever can wait until the timer goes off can have the biggest piece," he promised. The children squirmed and fidgeted, eyeing the cake eagerly. As soon as the timer beeped, the cake was gone in a flurry, and Father Mike couldn't help but laugh. "Well," he said, wiping crumbs off his face, "sometimes, the lesson is about swift action at the right time too!
