Autumn Reflections: Balancing Tradition & Change
| | Dear Brother Knights, | | Life is often a balance between change and tradition. While change can bring improvement or challenges, tradition provides a sense of safety, though it risks becoming stagnant if not refreshed. I believe our council, St. Rose, and the DeSoto community as a whole do a great job of staying true to their roots. While some changes are inevitable, and some activities will evolve or be replaced, the core principles of the Knights of Columbus—Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism—remain steadfast. We should do all we can to support the traditions that define our council, church, school, and community.
The St. Rose Parish picnic is a long-standing tradition that strengthens our parish community and raises important funds. It’s heartening to see everyone pitching in, whether by working or attending, to make it a success. Remember, "The Lord helps those who help themselves." Success comes from our collective efforts; it won’t happen on its own.
Recently, I was asked if the Knights would participate in the Veterans Day parade. Last year, there was an article in the Leader about the parade, and it would be great to have our organization represented in this community event. DeSoto has a rich tradition of parades, and our Main Street is a perfect backdrop for them. Planning is underway, and we encourage any participation, especially from our Veterans.
At our last meeting, the Knights and Ladies made a significant donation to the Missouri State Council to support the fight against the abortion constitutional amendment. You can find more information on this in the newsletter. Updates at the hall include a new WiFi system, thanks to the clubroom. You can access the improvements with the new password available there. On the technology front, our 20+ year old camera system has failed, and a new system is being designed. The cost is yet to be determined but will likely be in the thousands.
Additionally, parking lot restriping has been approved and will be completed this fall. Proceeds from the annual car show in October will help cover this expense.
The online Queen of Hearts drawing jackpot is now over $6000. You can sign up to enter through a link in this newsletter, and consider setting up an automatic recurring payment plan. Some organizations have jackpots in the tens of thousands thanks to weekly subscribers.
Thank you to everyone who supports our efforts.

We’d love to see you there to enjoy great food and fun activities. If you’re able to volunteer some time, please reach out to Jenn Missey. Looking ahead, we have a Car Show on October 5th. If you can help out, please contact Beth Novotny. The Columbia Anns have been busy with the Concession Stand and catering throughout the summer. If you can assist with serving or food prep for upcoming catering events, please see Vicky Moss. In July, we installed new officers and decided to forgo the meeting that month. We also discussed the possibility of hosting a Christmas party for the ladies this year. We’re considering either a Sunday afternoon lunch with Santa or a Saturday evening event. We’ll discuss it further in the September meeting to start planning. For the October meeting, we’re planning a fun item exchange with a fall theme. Pick up a cute item from the dollar store or a box of candy to share. In November, we’ll play a white elephant game to add some fun to the meeting—let’s see who ends up with the most surprising gift! We also made a $511.00 donation to Pro-Life. Upcoming Events: August 24: Catering - Wedding Reception

Clubroom Update: Enhancements and Excitement Ahead | | Hello Everyone,
As we welcome September, we also welcome the cooler weather and the start of the fall season. Fall is a time for cozy gatherings, vibrant colors, and of course, football Sundays!
Speaking of football, it's time to start thinking about Sunday games! We will be open every Sunday starting at noon, and we'll close after the 3:25 games are over. On these Sundays, we'll be hosting some special events like our Sunday Brunch with Bloody Marys and Mimosas, and an outdoor Tailgate Party game on the lot. Keep an eye out for more details on these events—be sure to check our Facebook page and the Clubroom bulletin board for updates!
As fall rolls on, we also want to give you a heads-up on the Knights of Columbus Children's Trunk or Treat, happening this year on October 25th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. We would love to see as many cars as possible participate, so if you're interested in handing out candy from your decorated trunk, please let Cassi Coleman know. She'll have a sign-up list in the Clubroom. And of course, we invite all members to bring your children and grandchildren for trunk or treating, snacks, drinks, games, and marshmallow roasting. It's sure to be a fun-filled evening!
We also want to congratulate the six teams that brought home trophies from the Knights of Columbus State Horseshoe Tournament this year. We're so proud of you all—it's been a long time since DeSoto has brought home this much hardware!
Lastly, our softball league is up and running and will continue through the beginning of October. A big thank you to all the teams that signed up! And don't forget about our weekly horseshoe tournaments on Friday nights. Draw for your own partner, come out, and have a great time with us. The concessions will be open, offering beer, soda, water, chips and candy.
As the leaves start to fall and the days grow shorter, we hope to see you all at the Clubroom, enjoying everything this season has to offer. Here's to a wonderful fall full of fun, football, and fellowship!

Defending Life: Understanding Missouri's Legislative Measures on Reproductive Rights | | In light of the recent statewide discourse surrounding reproductive rights, we at the Knights of Columbus are committed to upholding and promoting the sanctity of life at all stages. The documents shared from the Missouri Catholic Conference provide insights into the current legislative measures and their potential impacts on societal norms and parental rights. Here are the key points from the documents: Pro-Life Stance Reinforced: The documents reiterate the organization’s commitment to pro-life values, emphasizing opposition to the Missouri Pro-Abortion Ballot Initiative, which aims to secure reproductive freedoms that could include extensive abortion rights. Educational Components: The documents outline the details of the proposed constitutional amendments and their implications, encouraging members to understand and engage in respectful and informed discussions on these pivotal issues. Prayer for Guidance: A prayer card included calls for divine help to defeat the ballot initiative and for blessings on efforts to uphold the sanctity of life. For those looking to delve deeper into our stance and the proposed legislative changes, detailed information is available through the Missouri Catholic Conference. We encourage all members to stay informed and participate actively in advocacy efforts aligned with our core values.

| | Spiritual Story | The Lesson of the Autumn Leaves
| As autumn approaches and the leaves begin to change colors, we are reminded of the beauty in the cycle of life. A wise man once observed that the falling leaves represent more than just the end of summer; they symbolize the grace in letting go. Just as the trees shed their leaves to make way for new growth in the spring, we too must learn to release our burdens, forgive past wrongs, and trust in God’s plan. When we let go of what no longer serves us, we open our hearts to the new blessings God has in store. Just as the trees are not diminished by the loss of their leaves, we are not diminished by the challenges we face. Instead, we are prepared for the new season of growth that lies ahead. |

| | Humor Me | The Chicken and the Egg | A farmer went to collect eggs from his chicken coop one morning, only to find that one of the hens was refusing to get off her nest. “What’s the matter with you?” the farmer asked. The hen clucked softly and said, “I’m just trying to hatch these eggs.”
The farmer, amused, replied, “But you’re not sitting on any eggs!” The hen looked down, then back up at the farmer with a sly grin and said, “Oh, I know. I’m just practicing for when I do!”
Sometimes, the best preparation for what’s to come is a little bit of faith and a whole lot of patience—even if it means sitting on nothing for a while!
