Spring Into Action: A Message from the Grand Knight | | Dear Brother Knights, | | May is a challenging time of the year for those in school. The weather is more inviting outside, and by design, school is inside. For those who struggle with school, there are a lot of new distractions; spring sports, camping, and fishing to name a few. At the same time, the demands of school are higher; deadlines on projects, exams, and hopefully passing final grades. I envy people who enjoy and are good at school. It is more of a job that you don't particularly like for others. A job like many you may have in your life. You have to show up and do the work, pay your dues, so to speak, to earn your way up the ladder.
May also brings celebration for everyone that achieved their graduation. Congratulations to all who are graduating, including our St. Rose 8th grade class. Best of luck to all as they move on to the next phase of their education.
On a sad note, I received word that Fr. Tom Carroll passed away. Fr. Tom was the head and inspiration for a mission church and school in rural Kentucky. He has dedicated his life for decades to help the needy in that part of the country. We have supported his cause for years. Every month, he would write a thank you note from his heart, detailing his struggles and triumphs. He passed away on Good Friday. He was a man of God, and I'm sure he is with Him now.
At next months meeting, in addition to the regular business, we will have nomination of officers. If you are interested in serving in some capacity, or know someone who is, please let me, Todd Milner, or any current officer know. The meetings take less than 1 hour and include a meal before and a free drink from the clubroom afterwards. Hope to see you there.
Please remember all the mothers on Mother's Day. Thank you to all mothers past and present for all you do.
Fraternally, John Zeigler, Grand Knight |

Understanding Memorial Day | | History and Origin: Memorial Day traces its roots to the post-Civil War era, initially known as Decoration Day, a time designated for decorating the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers and flags. It officially became a national holiday in 1971, set on the last Monday of May to honor all American military personnel who died in all wars.
Traditions and Observances: The day is marked by various national and community activities. These include visiting war memorials and cemeteries, where American flags are placed on each grave. Memorial Day is also known for its national moment of remembrance at 3 PM local time, where Americans are encouraged to pause for a minute of silence to remember those who have died in military service.
Reflection and Education: Educational programs and media presentations often focus on the historical significance and personal stories of military service members. It’s a time to educate the younger generations about the sacrifices made for their freedoms and to reinforce the day’s importance beyond the recreational activities associated with the long weekend.
As we reflect on the valor and sacrifices of those who gave their lives for our freedoms, let's especially remember the fallen members of our council and community. Their legacy inspires us to cherish the peace they fought to preserve and to carry forward the torch of remembrance with pride and dignity.

Celebrating Mother's Day | | Historical Background: Mother's Day was officially established by Anna Jarvis in 1914 in the United States, born out of her own mother's dream of acknowledging the sacrifices mothers made for their children. It has since become an international phenomenon, celebrated in various forms across the world.
Modern Celebrations: Typically, it involves giving gifts, cards, flowers, and other tokens of appreciation to mothers. Families often celebrate by giving mothers a day off from activities like cooking or household chores, and it's common for families to gather and have a special meal together in honor of their mothers.
Cultural Impact: The day also serves to highlight the significant cultural and social roles mothers play. It recognizes the contributions of mothers to society in nurturing and shaping the next generation. Additionally, it's an opportunity to discuss and advocate for important issues mothers face, such as maternity leave, childcare, and work-life balance.
On Mother's Day, while we celebrate all mothers, let us give a special thanks to the mothers within our council. Their nurturing spirit and dedication not only strengthen our families but also enrich our community. Today, we honor their countless contributions and the love they share, which continues to inspire us all.

| | Spiritual Story | Echoes of Valor
| In a quiet village, every Memorial Day, an old soldier, Mr. Thompson, would visit the local school to share stories of friends he had served with, those who never came home. With a gentle voice and a worn-out service cap, he'd recount tales not of battles, but of the dreams and laughter they shared. His stories, woven with themes of courage and sacrifice, left a profound impact on the community, reminding everyone that the true spirit of Memorial Day lies in remembering the human lives behind the uniforms and honoring their legacy of bravery and selflessness. |
|
| | Humor Me | The Great Mother's Day Experiment | This Mother's Day, young Emma decided to surprise her mom by making her famous lasagna herself. With the kitchen resembling a scene from a science fiction movie, Emma mixed, stirred, and seasoned with enthusiasm more common in a mad scientist than a chef. When it came time to serve, the lasagna was... let's say, structurally innovative. Mom's reaction? A burst of laughter and a hug for Emma, saying, "It’s the thought—and the fire extinguisher—that counts!" The family dined out that night, but Emma’s lasagna went down in history as the most memorable Mother’s Day gift ever. |
