Summer Service: Knights in Action | | Dear Brother Knights, | | I recently asked a friend if he was busy at work. He replied that he had a lot of work to do, but then proceeded to complain that he would rather be slow, and not have a lot of work lined up. I found that odd, given the boredom of downtime and the stress of reduced pay. We may not like going to work every day, but it does give a sense of purpose and reward.
There is never a shortage of work to do at our hall. Weekly events like bingo, shooting matches, grass cutting, Queen of Hearts, cornhole, and horseshoes keep us busy. Big events like the Whole Hog Dinner, golf tournament, 4th of July celebration, and St. Rose picnic require many volunteers doing their part each week to make them happen. Our council is blessed to have so many members who like to stay busy.
Recently, the concession stand was opened for the season. While testing everything out, it was discovered that the walk-in cooler was no longer functioning. The built-in cooler components, over 25 years old, would cost almost $7,000 to replace. The concession stand is not used as much as it once was. It was decided to demolish the old walk-in cooler and replace it with a new glass door reach-in cooler. Profits from operating the concession stand over the last few years stood at about $3,000. The new cooler cost about the same amount. As you can see, it's hard to get ahead when equipment is old. Please encourage members and visitors to patronize our concession stand during events. The money goes to the upkeep of the facilities so we can continue to provide recreational activities.
Let's all get out and enjoy the long summer days and mild nights. Let’s get our work done and have some fun too.
Fraternally, John Zeigler, Grand Knight |

Bright Beginnings: Columbia Anns' Summer Initiatives | | Dear Anns, | | With spring rain comes summer sunshine, perfect for gatherings of family and friends during Memorial weekend and into the 4th of July. Summertime brings great memories to all of us. We hope you all enjoy this wonderful summer. In May, we held elections for officers, and starting in August, your new officers will be: Vicky Moss - President Traci Hardin - Vice President Thank you to all the ladies who stepped up to take on these positions. The walk-in cooler in the concession stand failed, and due to the high cost of repair, we decided to purchase a cooler on wheels for $2,800. If anyone knows of an organization in need of a small hamburger grill and fryer, we will donate those from the concession stand as they are no longer needed after replacing them with a Blackstone grill and a new fryer. We also have an extra potato slicer in the kitchen that we could donate. As of June 1st, 2024, catering prices will be $18.00 per plate for two entrees and $16.00 per plate for one entrée. The menu will be part of a contract, requiring a deposit due 8 weeks in advance with the balance paid 6 weeks prior to the event along with the final numbers. Down payments will be non-refundable unless cancellation is due to death or illness. We are obtaining prices for an additional rack and trays to avoid borrowing from St. Rose for the whole hog, auction, and catering events. We are also looking into prices for additional tables and chairs to facilitate moving them between the two halls. For those who need to renew their ServSafe this year, I have been reminding you to get it done. I have removed the outdated certifications from our book. Upcoming events include: May 31st for 9 weeks - Concession Stand open from 5:30 PM to 9 PM June 29th -Independence Day Celebration (we provide food for sale) August 3rd, 17th & 18th, 24th - Catering and Gun Shows with food for sale in the kitchen September 1st - St. Rose Picnic (See Jenn Missey) October 5th - Car Show (See Beth Novotny) October 13th - Whole Hog Sausage Dinner (See Bob Roth) Enjoy the long summer days and mild nights. Get your work done and have fun too! Have a great Summer, Vicky Moss, Columbia Anns President |

Father's Day: Celebrating Dads Across Generations
| | Father’s Day is more than just an annual holiday where gifts are exchanged and cards are given. Originating in Spokane, Washington, at the suggestion of Sonora Smart Dodd, who was inspired by the selflessness of her own father, the day is a reflection of the changing role of fathers in family life and society. Traditionally observed on the third Sunday in June, the day has grown to acknowledge the importance of fathers to their children's development. It's an opportunity to recognize dads for the emotional and spiritual support they provide in addition to their traditional roles. Today, the celebration goes beyond biological fathers to honor all father figures who make significant impacts, including stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and mentors. Families celebrate with activities ranging from shared meals and outdoor activities to simply spending time together, emphasizing the significance of paternal bonding. This Father's Day, let's take a moment to appreciate all the lessons, love, and life guidance that these important figures bring into our lives.

| | Spiritual Story | The Light in the Storm
| In a small coastal town, an old lighthouse keeper named Mr. Samuel had served his community for decades, guiding sailors safely to shore. One stormy evening, a ship was in distress, and the electricity faltered. Using an old lantern, Samuel climbed to the top, shining his humble light out into the tumult. Miraculously, it guided the ship to safety. This story reminds us that no matter how small our efforts may seem, our light can make a significant difference in the darkest times. |

| | Humor Me | Father’s Day DIY Disaster | For Father's Day, little Joey decided to make a birdhouse with his dad. After hours of hammering, sawing, and painting, they stepped back to admire their work—only to realize it looked more like a bird spa than a house, with windows and a door that wouldn't quite close. "Well," Dad laughed, "it seems we've made the perfect resort for birds who like a breeze!" It was a day filled with more laughter than craftsmanship, proving sometimes the best gifts really are homemade—even if they're a bit breezy! |
