Spring Into Action: A Message from the Grand Knight

Dear Brother Knights,

One of my favorite things about Spring is to watch the progression of plants coming in to bloom. Forsythia, Redbud, Dogwood, among many others, take their turn bringing out their different colors. Some people would like the weather to warm up quickly in the spring. I prefer it to go slow. Give the spring plants time to show their colors. There will be plenty of time for warmer weather come summertime.

Our council has a lot of upcoming events in the Spring. Congratulations to all who helped staff the 7-week marathon that is the Lenten fish fries. Great job! The next big event is the whole hog dinner on April 21. Following that is our annual council golf tournament on April 26. Just like Spring, each takes a turn showing its colors. Please help out if you can, or just come out and enjoy.

It takes a lot to keep our campus running, but we still take time and our proceeds to give to charity and community events. A list of donations from the last meeting include:
  • Scholarships for membership to Jefferson County YMCA
  • Sponsorship for De Soto Goes Pink Trivia Night
  • Monthly donation to a mission church and school in rural Kentucky
  • Sponsor for the Elks Charity Ride for Smiles Dental Program
  • Sponsor fellow Knights of Columbus Council in Old Mines Car Show to benefit Make a Wish
  • Support of De Soto Food Pantry with our can food drive during Lent

It was also decided at the meeting to set up a lockable room for council printing and screening jobs. Shirts, hat, cups, huggy, banners, ect. can now be done in house to save money. There will also be a lockable larger room set aside for the gathering/storing of items for the Knights Little Elves Christmas party.

Wishing everyone a joyful Easter Season!

Fraternally,
John Zeigler, Grand Knight
April Inspirations from the Columbia Anns' President

Dear Anns,

As families prepare to gather for Easter with egg hunts, Easter baskets, lots of great food, we need to remind ourselves we are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. What a wonderful season!

  • Fish Fries during Lent are going well and we thank all our volunteers for all the hard work in making the weekly event happen.
  • Columbia Ann By-Laws were updated and will be sent off to the Chair Couple for approval.
  • The Concession Stand will begin operating May 31st and run for 9 weeks on Friday evenings. Get with me if you would like to volunteer.
  • Help is needed for the 2nd Wednesday of the month Bingo Night. We need a runner from 4:15 to 7:30pm. Let me know if you are interested in assisting.
  • New silverware dispensers were ordered and are now being used. This has made things much easier in the kitchen and will reduce costs in the long run.

Lastly, officer positions will be open for the next year. Anyone that wishes to run for President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary must be present at the April meeting. Elections will be held at the May meeting.

Have a blessed Easter,
Vicky Moss, Columbia Anns President

Now for the hard part. It is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of one of our beloved staff members, Jodi Haws, after an incredible 19 years of dedicated service to our facility. As she embarks on a new chapter in her journey, we want to take a moment to express our deepest appreciation for her unwavering commitment and countless contributions to our council. Throughout her tenure, Jodi has not only been a skilled bartender but also a cherished member of our council. She has poured her heart and soul into creating memorable experiences for our patrons, and her presence has undeniably shaped the very fabric of our establishment. We will miss her more than words can express. The positive impact Jodi has had on our staff and guests is immeasurable, and we are profoundly grateful for her dedication, professionalism, and warm spirit. While she may not be with us on a daily basis moving forward, we take solace in knowing that she may still grace us with her presence from time to time behind the bar. Please join us in extending our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to her as she embarks on her next adventure. With deepest gratitude and warmest regards, we love you Jodi! Congratulations and good luck!

Spiritual Story
The Garden of Forgiveness
In a small village, there was a neglected garden, overgrown and forgotten. Two neighbors, once close friends but estranged over a trivial argument, owned it. As Easter approached, the village priest suggested they work together to revive the garden for a community Easter celebration. Reluctantly, they agreed. Through shared work, they began to talk, laugh, and eventually forgive each other. By Easter, the garden was in full bloom, a testament to new beginnings and the power of forgiveness, mirroring the renewal spring brings and the resurrection celebrated at Easter.

Humor Me
April Fools’ Day Choir Mishap
The church choir decided to add a bit of humor to the April Fools’ Day service by switching their hymn sheets for nursery rhymes. However, the choir director, not in on the joke, started conducting with such fervor that the congregation was soon swept up in the most spirited rendition of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" they'd ever heard. The mix-up brought laughter and a light-hearted moment to the service, reminding everyone that joy and a sense of humor are also blessings.
